Babylon to Chang’an:
Asia’s Museums & Heritage
Tuesday 9 March, 6.45pm
Asia House Travel Forum with Cathy Giagrande and Antony White
Cathy Giagrande and Antony White, co-authors of ‘CHINA: Museums’, discuss the Middle Kingdom’s less-known monuments to culture. The variety is staggering, from the outstanding collections of fine art and material culture displayed in the Shanghai and Nanjing museums, to the world’s largest collection of Middle Jurassic dinosaur remains in Zigong, Sichuan province. Running into the 20th century they present over a dozen museums in Chengdu, showcasing 8 million items relating to the Cultural Revolution and war against Japan. Guaranteed to lead you off the beaten track when exploring China’s heritage.
We will also be discussing travel in Iraq. One of the earliest cradles of human civilisation under the Sumerians and the Babylonians, Iraq’s heritage has been at great risk since the invasion in 2003.
