“Moonlight Reveries” Middle Autumn Festival Show 1st October at Liverpool Capstone Theatre
This Chinese cultural celebration will feature a sumptuous selection of artistic presentations. These will include screening of a short film about how different groups in the Chinese community celebrate the festival, Chinese music performed through collaboration between Chinese and Western musicians, Festival Poetry performed in Mandarin and English, Festival songs performed by leading Chinese vocalists (along with a local community choir) and a multimedia dance piece based on the myth upon which the Festival is based.Audience members will also be treated to samples of the traditional festival MOON CAKES and Chinese tea.
‘Moonlight Reveries’ is funded by Liverpool Primary Care Trust, Arts Council England and Merseyside Police Authority, and is supported by Merseyside Dance Initiative, Confucius Institute, Hope Street Ltd.

[09-Sep-2011] Atsuko Tanaka and Japanese Women Artists in the Context of Conceptualism 1950 - 2010
Atsuko Tanaka was one of the foremost members of Gutai, a group which focussed on experimental art forms, their manifesto proclaiming a new relationship between the materials and the human spirit. Within this primarily male-orientated group, Tanaka was particularly unconventional and stood out from the other Gutai members, as indeed she did from other international avant-garde artists of her time. CAS commissions Liz Liew and Andy Leung for New Music 20x12
Chinatown Arts Space is one of the successful commissions of New Music 20x12, part of the Cultural Olympiad for the London Olympics. Andy Leung and Liz Liew will compose and perform XXXY, a musical tug-of-war reflecting contrasting themes of multicultural London: male vs female, traditional vs experimental, young vs young-at-heart, British culture vs world culture, lo-fi vs hi-fi: XX vs XY. It celebrates and explores the 'clashes and matches' in this diverse city, embracing the team and competitive spirit of the Olympics, with traditional instruments, contemporary sounds and urban youth junk drummers.
