Save The BBC World Drama - Urgent Appeal for more Signatories - petition closes Feb 10

URGENT APPEAL FOR MORE SIGNATORIES - PETITION CLOSES FEBRUARY 10

FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE DEADLINE FEBRUARY 11

The reason for this urgency is the announcement of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Inquiry into the World Service Cuts. The deadline for submissions is February 11. This campaign intends to make a submission on February 11 which will include this petition.

The inquiry was precipitated by the announcement on January 26 that World Service will make16% budget cuts along with staff cuts of 25%, around 650 staff. Around 30m listeners worldwide will be lost.

This announcement received worldwide media coverage.

On January 27 we delivered to Peter Horrocks (Director of the World Service) an OPEN LETTER signed by top British celebrities, including Dame Judi Dench.

On January 30, The Sunday Times (UK) published a favourable opinion piece about our campaign.

We now appeal for your help as this is the last chance before the petition closes.

Thanks in anticipation.

I Value the Arts: Urgent appeal from Kate Adie

News Thumb The I Value the Arts campaign aims to provide a voice for everyone who values the arts in their community and it has now received 16,430 pledges of support. This is great news, and a true reflection of how cultural services are an integral part of every community. However, in light of recent developments it is now more important than ever that everyone has the opportunity to sign up. I would like you to help raise the profile of the I Value the Arts campaign and get more people involved. It is vital that you get in touch with as many people as you can and ask them to pledge their support at www.ivaluethearts.org.uk

As you may know, the recent Comprehensive Spending Review left local councils facing an average cut of 28 per cent. The non-statutory status of local funding for cultural services has meant that the arts sector is left vulnerable to bear the brunt of these local authority cuts.
