STATEMENT
From July 20th through August 7th, I will be having an art show at the Lewisham Arthouse Gallery in the Lewisham area of London. The show is titled “Leaving My Found Eden: A Poetography Exhibit.” It features the art form I call Poetography, in which I combine English-language tanka poetry with black-and-white photography.
The theme of the show focuses on the sadness of leaving the person and place you love. All the proceeds from the sales of the art will be donated to local non-profit organizations.
Yours is an organization I would like to support. I would like to dedicate one or more nights to your organization if you are willing to help get people to the gallery. The best way, I think, is to have one or two of your performers do read my poems. Having a professional read the poems would be much better than if I were to read them.
All the proceeds from the sale of my art on that day would go directly to your organization.
The best day and time would be the evening of July 29th, when all the galleries in the area are open from 6-9pm for the “South London Last Friday.”
Please let me know if this opportunity interests you. If it doesn’t, do you know of any performers who might be interested in working for an evening? The show begins in a little more than a week from now.

PROJECTS
Leaving My Found Eden: A Poetography Exhibit, in Search of Poetry Reader

Hello,
My name is Ron L. Zheng. I am an artist and poet, and I will have my first United Kingdom gallery exhibition at the Lewisham Arthouse Gallery inLondon from July 20th through August 7th.
I have developed an art form called Poetography, in which I combine English-language tanka poetry with photography. Tanka is a traditional Japanese poetic form, with each poem consisting of five lines and a syllable pattern of 5-7-5-7-7. The photographs are shot on black-and-white film, and the images are digitally transferred to canvas.
The show is titled “Leaving My Found Eden: A Poetography Exhibition.” Through the poetry and the photographic image, each poetography piece tells a short but complete story. Together, the pieces in the show present intense moments in people’s lives: the sadness of having to leave the place you love, thoughts of childhood and growing up, and memories of friends.

Over the past four years, I have had numerous successful art exhibits. I have had poetography shows in galleries in New York, Los Angeles , San Francisco, Washington (DC), Toronto , Vancouver, Nishinomiya (Japan), and Kaslo (Canada). The recent show in Kaslo had special significance to me. I have attached the story of the link between my work and Kaslo’s history.
The first book of my work, Leaving My Found Eden: A Poetography Collection, was published by Literary Road Press. The book won the 2009 da Vinci Eye Award for my design of the book’s cover (I am the first Asian to win this award), the 2010 Readers Views Literary Award for Global Literature/Asia, and the National Indie Excellence Award for Non-fiction.
The book was also a Finalist for the National Best Books 2009 Awards (for General Photography and Non-fiction), the Eric Hoffer Award (for Poetry), the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Award (for Cover Design), and the Readers Views Literary Awards (for Humanities). In 2011 I received the 2011 Certificate of Recognition by the Academy of American Poets for “fostering a greater appreciation of contemporary poetry.”
I believe that the people of London will find this merging of traditional Japanese culture with contemporary western narratives relevant to their lives. I am hoping that you can bring the show to the attention of your readers.
Thank you,
Ron L. Zheng
